  1. Globalisation is a term that showed among the people 3000 years ago without them being aware of that. Columbuses discovery of America and after that the industrial revolution were just the the begining of the new era , if i can call it like that.
I cannot say globalisation is a bad thing because it has it's advantages and disadventages just like we have our good and bad qualities.
In the past people didn't have clothes like we have today , and they were mostly wearing their traditional clothes for which they were recongnized and different from the other countries which meaned there are lot of cultures in the world and lot of varieties.
Also they were eating food that didn't have so much calories and had more vitamines so people were much healthier.
    Today everything has changed.
Since the computers and the mobile phones appeared around the world , we are just so stucked to them that we cannot see how we get addicted to the modern technology and forget how beautiful and more relaxed our lives could be.
And what about people wearing Nike or Addas products just because it's a brand , not because they feel confortable wearing them.
Anyway , it's not that we aren't enjoying all this globalisation thing , i like sitting home and chat with my friends on facebook , or watch some history movies and discovery chanels.
Globalisation has changed everything and anyone in the world , we just need to be carefull for it not to change our identities.

    1. I understand your dilemma Aleksandra, after all you are a young person. And as such you enjoy some of the benefits of globalisation. Communication is easier, that's true, and more and more famous brands are available, but food is getting worse. Or is it? What do you think about organic food? With the increase of the world's population will there be enough food for everyone?

  2. Globalization

Globalization is a planetary process which includes increased economic integration. It aims to soften the trade barriers between the countries and establish exchange of technology, goods, fashion, culture and much more. It’s a process that started around 6000 BC.
One of the sub processes of Globalization is the massive expansion of the English language, which in my opinion is a good thing. It will help us communicate with others, we’ll be able to easily find our ways out in other countries and much more. Another benefit is the global market. It gives us the option to sell our homemade goods in other countries, expand our market, but also it enables us to use quality products from all around the world. The popular films and songs that appear and amuse people in other countries can serve us as entertainment, giving us another view of the world.
However the negative sides overweight the good ones in my opinion. The English language is excellent for improving the communication between people, but it can also cause loss of certain native language characteristics, as well as erase whole languages. This can bring to the loss of specifics in the small cultural identities. Also, the global market is imposing multi-national corporations to expand and take costumers from our home companies. This makes our economy fragile and dependent to what other countries dictate. The popular films and songs may entertain us in certain times, but can also fool us in thinking that other nationalities and cultures are “better” and more sophisticated than ours.
“It has been said that arguing against globalization is like arguing against the laws of gravity”-Kofi Annan. To sum up, I think that Globalization cannot be stopped, nor it can be slowed down, therefor we should try to extract only the benefits from this process and take extreme measure to prevent the negative effects.

    1. I agree with you Zoki in most of the points. I am interested in your view on how globalisation started around 6000 BC, what were the circumstances that made cultures interact with eachother? And do you think economy is the main driving force behind globalisation? Can you demonstrate one negative effect globalisation has on language and what measures should we take in order to prevent from it?

    3. For me globalisation is something that began when people started to wonder, move from one place to another, when tribes started to interact with each other. People started to learn and use things and techniques that were already invented, and this is the begging of globalisation in my opinion. Of course, there are events that gave globalisation a push so it would spread faster with much greater swing, but those aren't the ones who triggered it. I think that it's in our nature to change and take actions to progress in our society by learning one from another. As for your second question, I think that economy is the main, but not the only driving force. For example the multi-national corporations are driven by the economy, but we don't really need new 'Adidas' trainers to prosper in an economic way. We want to blend in, follow the world trends. This is one example, there are many more.
At last, I don't really like how it sounds funny and primitive when we try to use new words with Macedonian roots. The fact that that's primitive in our heads is primitive. We should use them more so people will start to act normal when they hear them. Also we don't really use Cyrillic any more to write in Macedonian. Many Facebook posts are written in Latin. This is something that we can prevent by pressing two bottoms on our keyboard.

    4. I agree completely with you. And funny but true we are also primitive because we have lost the ability to remember so we need writing to record our experiences. This coinides with the beginnings of the great migrations (of course we might speculate day and night of what made those people move around the globe), but it is evident that with the beginning of the literacy cultures people started losing their true knowledge. Globalisation means uniting as one into a single conscious context. Blending of ethnic cultures into a global melting pot of pop cultures. So the ethnic cultures blend into the modern pop cultures within each national context. Do you think that the ethnic cultures and traditions of the Balkans have something to offer to the global pop culture? Which are the strengths of the Balkan ethnic cultures?

  3. Globalisation is a planetary process which involves integration of different cultures, identities, traditions, languages into a multicultural and multiethnic society. According to some researches this process began in 3000 BC but others say it is the result of the big discoveries and the industrial revolution. Practically you can’t be sure when it really started you just have to pick your side which you think suits your opinions the most. Every country is part of this process and just like any occurrence it has its advantages and disadvantages.

One of the characteristics of this process is the use of English globally. This makes communication and learning between people from different countries and societies a whole lot easier. Also people start learning how other people from different parts of the world dress, eat what type of music they listen and such which results into a more friendly world. That is because as humans we have a lot of things in common and this might lead to an end when people were left out or treated badly because of their nationality, race or religion. The global market is part of the golbalisation process . Globally available goods means that we can buy clothes from all of the famous brands, eat in the most popular restaurants and even enjoy our morning coffee in Starbucks or any other famous coffee shop.

On the other hand the use of the English language on a global scale will result into different variations of English which leads to a slow disappearance of the mother tongues. Learning from people from different identities might have its benefits but that mixture can also make a smaller group of people slowly die out. Also the global market increases sales of the big global firms which is a disaster for the local companies which will be squashed by the big competition from the big global corporations.

To sum up globalisation is a contradictory occurrence since it has its positives and negatives. In the near future we will find out which ones are more present but for now I am keeping my positive opinion about it.

    1. That is a very constructive view Filip. However, you say that globlisation has created a friendlier world. Can you explain why there are so many conflicts worldwide? Is democracy the right system of values for all cultures?

    2. Well as I mentioned before a negative effect from the goblalisation process is that sooner or later people that come from smaller societies will slowly be assimilated and become a part of a new and bigger group at the cost of losing their national marks. As this process continues soon there will be one global society from which the real problems will appear.
Today every country has its own government but if what I said before continues it might lead to a world where there will be one government ruling on top of the whole world. Then nobody will care about our individual problems, even if you ask for help your call will be lost on the long way to the person that is able and supposed to help.
And to answer your other question.I don't think that democracy is ideal for every society. For example people in Asia in general tend to keep their traditions and democracy will make it harder to do so because there will be other people nosing in their societies.Unlike in Europe where the countries are more "Developed" democracy is a "trend" especially for the smaller countries like ours which think that this system will help them come closer to the bigger countries.

    3. I agree, this kind of global identities already exists, the internationals. And I understand your concern regarding legal and institutional problems in a global society. I find it interesting, why is democracy a trend in societies such as ours and not in Asian societies?

  4. Globalization is a series of social, economical, technological, cultural, and political changes that promote interdependence and growth. Globalization raises the standard of living in developing countries, spreads technological knowledge, and increases political liberation. The main cause of globalization is influence from other, more developed, countries. Globalization is a historical process that results from human innovation and technological progress.
Due to globalization we can now listen to British songs, watch American movies, use Chinese and Korean technology, drive German cars and many other things. However there are some disadvantages. For example smaller countries, like ours, have influence from bigger and more developed countries, in our everyday life and more important in our language. If we all start using English, in 50 years, or less, our language could become less used. It’s the same thing with tradition. Everybody, these days, want modern and trendy clothes, American style weddings, world popular food and coffee brands.
My personal opinion about globalization is that there are many advantages and cool things, but although this sounds very interesting, we can not underestimate negative things that arise from it. For the end I can say that, globalization is positive and negative in the same time. Though, I think, it has more advantages, than disadvantages.

  5. Globalization is a planetary process that is used to describe the changes in the world economy. For some people, it started 6000 years B.C. , for some in the Discovery Age, but for some in the 1750’s with the Industrial revolution.
One of the good sides of the globalization is the global market. It gives us opportunities to sell things and earn more money. We can also buy things that are not reachable in our country. Other good side is the multi – cultural society. Thanks to these societies ,we can learn something for different cultures, their tradition ,music , instruments, food ,etc. Building factories in other countries, especially in the poorer, is also a good side of the globalization. It gives opportunity to the population to get job in some of the factories.
However, globalization has a bad sides too, which, dominate over the positive. The global market doesn’t give the chance for small businessmen to realize their ideas. Also people are more concentrated to the foreign product and forget the quality of the domestic products. The multi – cultural society brings a mixture of cultures and languages, that can lead to forgetting our own culture and language. The factories may lead to more environmental problems. They can cause air and water pollution and deforestation .
In my opinion , globalization won’t stop here. All we can do is try and neutralize some of the negative effects, and let the positive ones help us.

  7. Nowadays we live in a world where we use several articles made in China, drink Coca Cola, talk on our iPhones and spend several hours on the internet. All this is made with the development of globalization.
The bright side is that big countries profit by increasing their business all over the world, where more job places open and costumers are presented with more varieties of qualitative products.
Another advantage is the English language which is learnt by millions of people. It is everywhere: in diplomacy, politics, education, business, entertainment etc. People know it better than their native language; even little kids can communicate flawlessly in English despite not being able to speak properly in their mother’s language. English has made communication and understanding easier, has opened many opportunities for success and has drawn people closer.
Because of globalization multiculturalism is progressed in so many ways where individuals are more interested in other cultures, find where they belong, express their minds, let their imagination loose and share with others their traditions, beliefs and ways of thinking
However, globalization has its fearful dark side
Have we ever thought about small countries? How will their business breakthrough? It sounds almost impossible with the big corporations living above their heads and taking more of their work.
Will small languages disappear completely? Maybe not, but they will surely change massively with the co called international words; if the language is out of use, the culture will disappear too, we would all become the same.
And the dilemma we are all dealing with: has Hollywood got into our heads?
Everyone wants those fairytale lives or that kiss in the rain. We are all living in film scenarios, in our American dream, in the perfect world of song lyrics and happy ever afters.
Nevertheless, globalization has opened many doors to improvement and success but ‘we must take care that globalization does not become something people become afraid of’

    1. Very creative and indicative. I agree with you Agnesa on most points. English has indeed made communication easier. Across the globe. You mention Hollywood! I wonder what effects can you describe that Holywood has on the young people today when it comes to communication? How can we motivate young people to both progress and conserve their cultural identities?

  8. Globalisation

The world is changing faster, much faster that we can imagine. Globalisation means global interconnectedness, it includes some complex processes like industrialism, multiculturalism, discovering, capitalism, technology development, diversity etc.
In this process of globalization, which I think it’s a nice one we have advantages and disadvantages. The positive side of globalization is multi ethnic and multicultural societies. In that society you need to be more prepared in many areas, first at all, you are faced with the difference of languages. It also urges a competitive atmosphere. With the process of globalization are opened up new opportunities for films and songs. At first side we see it like an education stuff, quite positive, more choices, more pleasure. And also the industrial development played an important role, especially in the process of improving lifestyle. In the other side, these huge and complex changes made us think the negatives sides of this process. We live in a society where films and songs and other developed technology have been made part of our everyday life, that had affected us like a barrier of developing our own ideas and so they can guide us everywhere, every time, it is like a big brain-washing process. And how about multicultural and multi ethnic societies ?! It affects us negatively because in some areas like languages we start to lose our own values. English, and English words had affected our lifes much more that we are prepared to hear that. Many people have replaced their words with new English ones.
Although all these divisions of this process I still keep my personally attitude that globalization is a path of progress which is good to continue. Globalization has changed us into a company that searches the world, not just to sell or to source, but to find intellectual capital the world’s best talents and greatest ideas.

    1. That is a great motto, and I agree with you. You mentioned very interesting aspects, like diversity urges competitiveness. I wonder what you think about differences between cultures, and hiw can they be used to create positive competitiveness rather then conflicts?

  9. Globalization…!?

Whether you know the meaning or not, you’re still a part of it.
If you look it up in a dictionary or on the internet you will find out that this is a planetary process which started 3000 years ago. No one really knows what happened at that time that triggered this process, but people lost a very important ability –the ability to remember. They started forgetting things and as a result writing appeared. When this occurred people began to move across the globe, they were now literate and able to interact with each other. Of course, there are events that made globalization spread faster and reach a certain point like it has today. Without it the world will simply collapse. Globalization is a contradictory occurrence; it has positive and negative sides.
First of all, we have the massive expansion and use of the English language.
This is a good thing because you can communicate with people all around the world, sharing your knowledge, culture, inventions, technology etc.…
However, as this takes action, we are not aware that we are losing our identity and our uniqueness. We are blending with the rest of the world making us one-global, and that has its own price.
Secondly, there is the global market.
This is a very good benefit because it narrows the gap between the rich and the poor thanks to the rapid increase in cross-border movement of goods, service, technology and capital. On the other hand, it has its down sides too. Let’s take McDonalds for example. Little do we know about how fast food businesses spread throughout the United States and the rest of the world, forcing world population to adopt fast food culture.
Also, just think about how many forests have been destroyed due to making room for seeding food for the animals.
To sum up, it’s your right to agree or disagree with this.
But, one thing is sure, you can’t stop the world from changing. Change is literally the only constant in all of science.
How we experience this change…well that’s up to us.

    1. Interesting standpoint. Allow me to agree then ;-) since it is my right, with you on most of the points you made. I wonder what you think, is it better to know the meaning of globalisation once you are part of it, or to live a life in blissful oblivion? And I agree that everything is changing. However, don't you think we should know, if anyone is initiating these changes for us, which direction they are taking us?

      Delete
    2. To know or not to know :that is the question :D
      It sure is tricky.
Of course we should know. That is the answer that comes to our heads when we’re being asked.
      But do we really?
I don’t think knowing will make a difference.
The main problem here is that 90 % of the public and even more are not interested.
And when you have lack of interest you don’t wonder, and not wondering means that you agree with everything that is happening.
Indeed there are some people who are aware of this, who think with their own heads, but unfortunately they get crushed. As individuals now, at this point of the expansion of globalization there is nothing that we can do to make a change or go against the ones who are initiating this changes.
So, due to having no choice I would say that ignorance is bliss.
Because once the whole truth is revealed you realize you were happier being clueless.

    3. That is a genuine truth Brankica. I completely agree with you! :)

  10. Globalisation?! The term globalization refers to the changes in societies and the world economy as a result of dramatically increased trade and cultural exchange. At the beginning of this essay I would say that this topic was not very known to me. Honestly I think very few people know about it. We are still living in a world of globalization, every person on this planet should be familiar with this term and its positive and negative sides. As I know it is a process that began 3000 years ago and which is still going on. In the past, people were not aware of the changes that have occurred and they were not educated so they did not have gained enough knowledge to find solutions to the world problems. Perhaps if they end the process of globalisation today we would not be facing with some world problems and maybe if globalisation did not exist life would be difficult. As it is we can not know!
It is known that the first man had a remarkably good memory, all the things they have did ,all their rituals and stuff they remembered them without any problem. But then the world has gone a step ahead and the WRITING was discovered. Some say then life became easier and some people say that it was a crucial moment when the world “went down”. I would say that with the appearance of writing life has become easier but the ability to memories things fell very low. Well that is one thing. Lets move on…
Then the problems of global warming started ,the destruction of the environment, the difference between rich and poor and so on… See?! Problems never end. But to be honest, this process has its own positive sides. For example the invention of the Internet, many delicious food, opportunities to travel around the world and other. I'm sure that most of the people enjoy the globalisation but still they need to be aware of the damage inflicted on the planet on which they are living.
